Informed by survivors, the mission of MISSSEY’s training institute is to cultivate communities that are compassionate, confident and armed with the tools necessary to address the complex issues impacting victims and survivors of sexual violence.

Our training and workshops provide a broad overview of trafficking that includes a discussion of youth pathways and risk factors, prevention and how to support young people who have been trafficked. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of this complex issue. After attending a training, they are also able to identify red flags, understand how to refer young people to support services and influence how their community addresses the sexual exploitation of youth. Youth providers receive guidance on engaging youth in simple safety planning. Youth training and workshops are informed by the lived realities of the youth that we serve. All facilitators have developed trauma- and healing-informed and strengths based approaches to engaging and supporting youth participants. Our trainings have reached over 10,000 adults, youth, health, and mental health professionals, including staff of local and national public and nonprofit service agencies, the City of Oakland and school districts in Oakland and West Contra Costa County.
